Summer is here and many people like to swim in this season. There are many people who want to enjoy the pool even if they don’t know how to swim. While most of you are aware of swimming guides, many people, especially those who go to the pool only occasionally, are not. In such a situation, they have to face side effects. Direct sunlight hits an open pool and chlorine is added to it, both of which are not good for your skin, eyes as well as your throat and stomach. In such a situation, you should know some important swimming safety tips. So let’s go into more detail about this (Swimming Guide for Beginners).
Health Shots spoke to dermatologist Dr Nivedita Dadu on how to avoid the side effects of pool water. The doctor has suggested some special safety tips that will help you enjoy your pool time freely.
Before swimming
1. Don’t forget to shower
Before jumping into the pool, shower with plain water for 1 minute. Or we can say that you need to get yourself completely wet. Bathing removes sweat and toxins accumulated on the outer skin of the body and reduces the formation of chloramine on the skin.
It also reduces the amount of chloramines that normally form in the pool, protecting you and everyone else. When you shower with plain water, your hair and skin absorb the clean water, which reduces the body’s ability to absorb other chemicals.
2. Apply sun screen
Apply sunscreen and leave it on for 15 minutes before going into the pool. You can apply coconut oil to preserve the body’s natural skin pH level and provide an additional coating to the skin’s protective layer, as well as reduce chlorine absorption.

While swimming
1. Snorkel and hair cap
It is also important to protect the eyes from chlorine and sunlight while swimming. For this, before entering the pool, wear a mask or snorkel for eye protection. Along with this, it is very important to wear a hair cap to protect your hair from dryness. In such a situation, protect your hair from chlorine water as much as possible.
2. Do not urinate
If you are in the pool with children, make them urinate every hour, and if you take them to the pool often, get them used to passing urine. Make sure not to urinate in the pool by mistake. By keeping the pool clean, you protect your skin as well as the skin of others.
3. Wear ear buds
Wear ear buds before going to the swimming pool so that water does not enter your ears. This is because chlorine water gets into your ears causing infection.
4. Do not let water get into your mouth
Whether you go for a swim or have fun in the pool, always be careful not to get pool water in your mouth. If you swallow chlorine water, it can cause stomach problems, including a throat infection.
After swimming
1. Take a shower
Take off your swimsuit and shower immediately after leaving the pool. After cleaning your body with plain water, use a body soap or body wash. Wash the swimsuit thoroughly before reuse.

The longer chlorine stays on the skin, the more irritating it becomes. These effects can be minimized by showering as soon as possible after leaving the pool.
2. Use a soft towel
After bathing, do not rub the skin with a towel, as friction strips the skin of moisture and rubbing can also irritate the skin. In such a situation, pressing makes the skin dry.
3. Apply moisturizer to the skin
Apply an unscented moisturizer or cream to moisturize and hydrate the skin after swimming.
4. Keep yourself hydrated
Constant exposure to sun rays in the pool can dehydrate the body. Dehydration causes dry skin. In such a situation, drink enough water after getting out of the pool. This keeps your body hydrated, so the skin is soft. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated while swimming.
Note: Avoid going to swimming pool if you have any kind of ear, eye and skin infection. Also, don’t go to an outdoor swimming pool in the afternoon. Not only this, swimming in a swimming pool should be avoided immediately after vigorous exercise or activity.
