My plan for a resin petri art wall in the studio

[ad_1]

I made a change in plans for a large, blank wall in the studio. I’ll share more about that later, but this change of plans meant I needed a new idea for the wall next to my desk.

I’ve been thinking about it for a few days now and I’m coming up with standard ideas — shelves, large artwork, etc. I don’t really want or need shelves in this area. I don’t even want or need something like a bulletin board or white board. I wanted something fun, colorful and unexpected.

So yesterday, as I was in the studio trying to finish some of these last projects, I came across this resin Petri box I made several years ago. I have 43 of them and they are in all kinds of colors.

So now my plan is to use all of this as a sort of “art installation” on that wall. My initial idea was to frame them all together, arranged in a grid on a white background (probably plywood or MDF).

It’s basically the same idea I used for the hallway bathroom, but on a much larger scale. I only used nine of them for the bathroom down the hall, but I pulled this one out months ago when I was trying to decide on wallpaper for that bathroom. I’m not putting them back when the new wallpaper is installed.

But again, my idea is to do something like that, instead of just using nine of them, I’ll use as many as I can, like eight rows of five.

If I do, I put them in a simple white frame. I do not frame dark wood for the studio.

And I’ll expand them beyond what’s shown here. This is the largest white background I have on hand, and I wanted to see how they would look. But I think they need a bit more space, which means they take up more space on that wall, which is a good thing.

I love how all this color looks next to the cabinets.

But I’ve seen 5″ x 5″ gallery-wrapped canvases. I absolutely love how it looks.

I don’t think I could use 43 of them or even 40 of them if I mounted each one on canvas. But oh, I love how it looks!

I mean, if this isn’t “me”, I don’t know what is.

However, my main concern is that I want to add more squares. But you know what? At this point, I’m going to lean towards the repetition of squares and rectangles in the room. I love squares and rectangles. This is the shape I am most drawn to. (I almost always choose squares and rectangles over circles and ovals for anything.) And if I love something, what better place to really lean into it than my own studio?

So if you’re thinking about that big, blank wall, here’s a plan for it. That wall now has a landscape design, a large colorful calendar, a TV and some shelves. Yes, I’m putting it all on one wall. I decided to go for it and throw everything at that wall. 😀 We all have to wait and see and my “Everything but the kitchen sink“The idea of a big wall changes.
