I’m on a roll, yay! Yesterday, I repainted my two work tables in the studio and they look great! I went with the color many of you suggested and it was definitely the right call. But let me back up for a minute.
If you’re new here, you might not know what I’m talking about. A few years ago, I built these two large work tables for my studio.
Each table is 5 feet square and I can use them individually or push them together to make one 5′ x 10′ work surface.
As you can see, I originally painted them bright green, which would have worked great if I had stuck with my original design/decorating plans for the studio. But as my plans changed, bright green wasn’t working on the two largest objects in the room. So, as many of you suggested, I repainted the tables in a deep eggplant color from Behr called Black Sapphire in a satin finish.
This is the color I used on the buffet in the breakfast room…
It’s also the same color I used on the doors to the storage closet in the back entry of the half bathroom and studio.
So yesterday, I gave these tables a very simple makeover, swapping out the bright green for a deep, dark eggplant color.
Since the table bases were previously painted with latex paint and there was no clear coat, the project was easy. I used some 150-grit sandpaper and gave the entire base a very quick sanding by hand and then wiped off all the dust (this whole process took no more than 10 minutes per table), then painted the new color over the top. . For small areas, I used a paint brush, and for large flat areas, I used a 6-inch roller for smooth surfaces. Since I was using a new quart of paint that had never been opened, I did not add paint conditioner (Flotrol). I used paint right out of the can.
And here is one of the finished tables. That’s a big difference in color! 😀 But I love how it looks with this eggplant colored wallpaper. It’s so dark that it can almost be mistaken for black in pictures, but in person, you can definitely see that it’s a beautiful deep purple.
You should definitely wait to see them in a clean, uncluttered studio. I have a lot of boxes of stuff that need to be put away, but I don’t have time to do it yet. So for now, you have to use your imagination.
So another project I can check off my punch list for this room. I feel like I’m so close to being done! If we revisit the punch list I made on April 5th, here’s how it looks now.
Finish painting the ceiling and walls;Installand paint baseboards; (in progress!)- Install and paint door casings on both doors; (in progress!)
- Paint both doors;
paint base on work tables;- Add a painted desk and two drawers;
Paint Swatch Paint the black parts of the cabinet white;- Terminate wiring electrical outlets;
- Add lights to the cubbies;
Finish trim on office area cabinets;Install a window shade;- Reupholster desk chair;
- Make the pendant light; (in progress!)
frame and hang landscape design;Decorate a long, blank wall;- Clean and touchup paint on the floor;
Finish adjustable doors and drawers;Install drawer pulls and door knobs.
The biggest tasks on that list for me are the pendant light (easy but time consuming) and reupholstering my desk chair (I’m dreading it). I’m looking for a green velvet high back rolling desk chair that I can buy and be done with. Although I’ve found a few, I don’t like any of them as much as my current desk chair. So unless I come across the perfect green velvet high back rolling desk chair (which seems highly unlikely), I’ll be stuck reupholstering the one I have. I hate furniture upholstering, but I find that it’s one of those things that I usually build up too much in my head and spend a lot of time dreading. But when I do it, it’s not really a big deal.
One thing I forgot to put on the list was to clean out the storage room so I could organize it. The rolling shelves currently blocking the side exterior studio door should go into the storage closet, but I need to clean that out first. I’m also nervous about that project, but I’ll be very happy when it’s done. After I tackle an organization project, I always feel so relieved, like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
So I’m down to the last few projects. I am so anxious to get this room done! I’m ready to finish working on the room so I can start working on the room. And I’m ready to go to the studio bathroom!
